With the blank document open, go first to Layout. Then, on the Margins dropdown menu, select Normal for 1-inch margins on all sides, top, bottom, left, and right. Next, lets set alignment and line spacing by clicking on the Home tab. Then in the Paragraph grouping, select Align Left. Move your cursor over to the spacing tools dropdown menu and select 2.0 for double spacing. Now lets set our indentation for the first line of a paragraph. Click on the Paragraph dialog box launcher arrow. In the box that appears, under Special select First Line and make sure the number is 0.5 or half inch. The footnote might consist of the type of work and authors name along with other information related to the type of citation.
References. For citation within United Nations documents, please use the United Nations Editorial Manual as the style guide for citation. Pages 186, 198-205: This applies to both The Chicago Manual of Style and APA Style. Many documents can be accessed by undocs.org/ .
Sometimes when writing a paper, you have additional information that you want to include, but it wont work well in the main text of your paper. This additional information also may not work as a parenthetical citation. In those cases, you can use footnotes in MLA Style.
Footnotes should not be longer than one paragraph. All footnotes should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in your paper. Footnotes can either be placed on the bottom of the page in which they appear, or they can be placed in consecutive order on a separate page after the reference page.
When using either type of footnote, insert a number formatted in superscript following almost any punctuation mark. Footnote numbers should not follow dashes ( ), and if they appear in a sentence in parentheses, the footnote number should be inserted within the parentheses.
When citing a report of a UN body or subcommittee, include the name of the body and subcommittee and abbreviate the author information. If the report is the product of a UN conference or lesser known committee, provide the full name. Title: Include the title of a UN decision or report in italics, if applicable.
Here is the basic format for a reference list entry of a UN report in Chicago style 17th edition: Author(s) of the report. Title of the report. Place of publication: Publisher, Year of publication.
Citing the Charter of the United Nations List the author or organization responsible for the document, followed by a comma. List the title of the document in italics, followed by a comma. List the date of publication, followed by a comma. List the document symbol, followed by a comma.
If the subsequent citation is in the footnote immediately following the full citation, you can use ibid. Used alone, ibid means in the very same place in other words, the same source and the same page or paragraph as the preceding full citation.
A short form for a case may only be used if the case is already cited (a) in the same footnote or (b) is cited in either full or short form in one of the preceding five footnotes.
