hey everybody today were combining columns in r using unite command from the tidier package this is a great tool if you have a single variable split across multiple columns in a data set and you just need to smash those columns together as character vectors ive already loaded up tidy verse of course thats where the tidier package lives as well as the nyc flights 13 package that includes the flights data set that im going to be looking today looking at today ive also put up pulled up the help file for unite you can look at that at your leisure so lets start just by taking a glimpse at this flights data set all right notice by the way that there are 336 000 observations lots of flights in and out of new york in 2013. lots of different variables here im going to be focused on the first three year month and day for some purposes it might be nice to have that date split into three columns but for others we might just want a single column called date and so thats going to be my real
