foreign says subscribe and click on the Bell icon to receive notifications footnotes and endnotes are a way of adding additional reference information into your document and the only real difference between footnotes and endnotes is that footnotes will appear at the foot of the page where youve added the note whereas endnotes will appear at the end of the document so lets take a look at an example of both so you understand what theyre used for now Im currently working on page number two of this document and Im just gonna pick a little piece of text out of here that I want to add some additional reference information for so maybe where I talk about online video I want to just add a little reference note here about copyright so what I can do is I can jump up to references and notice that we have a footnote section so Im going to insert a footnote now notice whatever you have highlighted when you insert the footnote youre going to get a little tiny number next to it in this case a

Why Are My Footnotes Moving to Another Page in Microsoft Word? If your footnotes keep moving to another page in Word, its because the contents of the footnote are too large for your pages footer. Your page margins might be too small or the font size might be too big.
Changing the Way Footnotes Are Numbered Make sure the References tab is selected on the ribbon. Click the small downward-pointing arrow at the lower-right corner of the Footnotes group. Make sure the Footnotes radio button is selected. Change the Start At value to reflect where you want Word to start numbering.
Use the Footnotes pull-down menu and select Footnotes Separator. Then Right Click on the bar and choose Paragraph from the contextual menu that displays. Check/adjust the Spacing Before and After settings for the Footnote Separator in this dialog where I have highlighted.
Please try clicking on the Review tab of the Ribbon, then on the Accept icon and choosing Accept All Changes in Document. On the same tab make sure Track Changes is switched to OFF. If there are any comments, right-click on each one and choose Delete. Then your footnotes should update correctly.
To change the formatting of the footnote numbers, select the Footnotes Reference Style. If you want to change the formatting of the footnote text at the bottom of the page, select the Footnote Text Style. Click Modify, and then change the formatting options (font, size, and so on).
Renumbering Existing Footnotes Make sure that Track Changes is not in use. Go to Insert Footnote. Confirm that the Footnote option is selected. From the Number choices select Continuous. Confirm that Apply changes to specifies Whole document. Be sure to click Apply rather than Insert to close the dialog window.
If you are doing your edits without Track Changes being turned on, then it is possible that your footnotes dont use automatic numbering. Meaning, whoever created the footnotes actually inserted the numbers within the Custom Mark field of the Footnote and Endnote dialog box.
