To locate the footnote Style; From the Home tab, in the Styles group (Style Gallery) Click the Dialog box launcher icon (1) in the bottom right corner of the group (See diagram). With the text in the Footnote selected, you should see the style (Footnote Text) highlighted (3) with a blue box around it.
To change the formatting of the footnote numbers, select the Footnotes Reference Style. If you want to change the formatting of the footnote text at the bottom of the page, select the Footnote Text Style. Click Modify, and then change the formatting options (font, size, and so on).
Fortunately it is just as easy: Position the insertion point where you want the custom footnote mark located. Choose Footnote from the Insert menu. Choose the Custom Mark radio button. In the box to the right of Custom Mark, enter the character (or characters) you want used for the custom footnote mark. Click on OK.
To adjust the settings of your footnote, including the numbering style, when to start and stop the numbering of your notes, etc., click on the Expand icon in the Footnotes Group of the References Ribbon. You can have your footnotes and endnotes restart their numbering in each chapter.
Each footnote should appear at the bottom of the page that includes its numbered in-text reference. For note numbers in the text, use superscript. Indent the first line of each note half an inch like a paragraph in the main text. Use a short line (or rule) to separate footnotes from the main text.
The convention is to use an asterisk for this sort of note, followed by the traditional numbered footnotes. But if you dont want a reference mark, you dont have to have one. Insert a note using an asterisk or other symbol and then format it as Hidden both in the text and in the note.
To insert a footnote: Open the References tab and in the Footnotes group select Insert Footnote. Type the text for the footnote. Double-click the footnote reference mark to return to the reference mark in the document.
How to Do Chicago Style Footnotes in Word Place your cursor in the body text where you want the footnote superscript to appear. Select the References tab in the ribbon toolbar. Select Chicago on the Style dropdown menu in the Citations and Bibliography section. Click Insert Footnote.
To search for a footnote, follow these steps: Press Ctrl+F to display the Find tab of the Find and Replace dialog box. (See Figure 1.) In the Find What box, enter the text for which you want to search. To search for a footnote mark, enter ^f. Set other searching parameters, as desired. Click on Find Next.
Go to the Insert menu and click Footnote to open the Footnote and Endnote box. Select the options you want in the Footnote and Endnote box. You can choose between footnotes and endnotes, numbering format, custom marks and symbols, a starting number, and whether to apply the numbering to the whole document.
