During quarantine, I took up walking as my main hobby and found it difficult to read research papers while on walks. However, thanks to a project by my colleague Kaz Sato in Japan, I learned how to use machine learning to convert PDFs into audiobooks. In this tutorial, I will show you how to do the same using computer vision and text-to-speech technology. Kaz used Vision API OCR to convert PDFs to text files, Auto ML Tables to understand document layout, and Text-to-Speech API to create .mp3 audio files.
