Tap the menu icon. Tap Radio. If the radio is turned off: Tap the on/off icon.
RT (radio text) This function allows a radio station to transmit a 64 (or less commonly 32) character free-form text message that can be either static (such as station slogans) or in sync with the programming (such as the title and artist of the currently playing song).
Press the Menu button until you see RDS (On/Off). Press the Seek/Track button to turn RDS on if its off.
FM radio: Radios with a low FM sensitivity do a better job of pulling in radio signals. An FM sensitivity of 8 to 12 dBf is considered very good.
Cell phones use antennae to transmit and receive radio waves that carry binary information. Every cell tower presides over an area of land, where it receives and transmits radio waves. When a text message is written, it is transmitted as binary code using a particular frequency of radio waves specific to that user.
The basic principle is simple. At one end, a transmitter encodes or modulates messages by varying the amplitude or frequency of the wave a bit like Morse code. At the other, a receiver tuned to the same wavelength picks up the signal and decodes it back to the desired form: sounds, images, data, etc.
The Radio Data System (RDS) allows FM radio to display the station, song title and artist when tuned to participating RDS broadcast radio stations. It also allows drivers to search for radio stations by their favorite category, such as: Rock. Jazz.
A program is transmitted by adding it to a radio wave called a carrier. This process is called modulation. Sometimes a radio program is added to the carrier in such a way that the program signal causes fluctuations in the carriers frequency. This is called frequency modulation (FM).
