In this short video were going to go over how to sign up for a user account, navigate the website, and begin transcribing. For other instructional videos and information please visit our website at transcription.si.edu. Anyone with internet access is welcome to explore and transcribe projects in the Transcription Center anonymously by heading to the website. If youd like to transcribe materials, review other volunteer transcriptions, and track your volunteer participation, though, youll need to register for a TC account. Please note that all registered users must be 14 years of age or older. OTranscribe OTranscribe is a free, open-source tool that can be used straight out of your web browser. It has a simple interface which lets you control the audio player and text editor in the same window, which means you dont need to click out of tabs to stop and start the audio.

Some of the top transcription software are Trint, Descript, Express Scribe, Otter, Sonix, Rev, and Amberscript.
If youre not using Otter yet, youll need to sign up for the free Basic plan first using your schools email address (e.g., john.smith@stanford.edu).
Trint was more difficult to use and would not easily upload my audio recording. In contrast, however, Otter.ai was much more user friendly and easily uploaded my audio transcript.
