Today I am doing something I used to do a lot, but havent in a long time, and that is to create bookmark cards. Cards that incorporate bookmarks that the recipient can remove is a great way to make the card more special, and they can keep it and use it, and make it a little more functional. So I have four different ideas for incorporating bookmarks onto your cards. These are all a little bit different and very easy to do, so Im hoping that youll give one a try. And you can use this with any products you may have. Lets start with my favorite type of bookmark to make and that is a corner bookmark. You can incorporate on your card, it just slides right out, and the recipient slides it on the corner of their page to keep their place. Now, I have a few cards showing this. Cardstock is of the most widely available and easiest materials for making bookmarks. Paper can easily be printed on a home printer, cut with scissors, embossed or laminated to make bookmarks of any size, shape and design. There are also all kinds of free printables available online to make bookmarks.
Paper. The paper you choose for your bookmark should be quite thick, but not as heavy as card: between 150 and 250 gsm is perfect. The finish is also important if you opt for recycled or natural paper theres no need for additional finishes, but coated paper may be even more effective with lamination added.
Cardstock:This is the most common type of paper used for making bookmarks. Its thick and durable, which makes it ideal for bookmarks. You can find cardstock at your local arts and crafts store or online.
Many are made of cardboard or heavy paper, but they are also constructed of paper, ribbon, fabric, felt, steel, wire, tin, beads, wood, plastic, vinyl, silver, gold, and other precious metals, some decorated with gemstones.
Final thickness of a bookmark is about 1/32 inch.
If you would still like to print your bookmarks on glossy paper and need to write on your bookmark, we recommend that you select the front side of your bookmark to be glossy and leave the back non-glossy so that you can write on the back. However, the best cardstock for writing on is 14 pt. uncoated.
