[Music] hey friends cloud bart here time for another one minute identity and access management lesson in previous videos you may have heard me talking about using tags such as like an ec2 instance tag to identify resources but then also being able to use them as a way of identifying permission scenarios based on the tags that a particular resource might have well did you know resource tagging is available for iam users as well so this means that when we create users we can also give them a tag value and that can control what permissions that user might be able to affect on other resources and also we can control what other permissions might be granted against that resource for the user itself so weve got resource tags all over the place and we can use them to identify and qualify conditions in a number of useful scenarios so lets take a few minutes here in this video and talk about a couple of scenarios in which this might work so heading on over to the management console lets star

The aws:RequestTag/tag-key condition key used to compare the key-value pair passed in the user request with the tag pair specified in the IAM policy. The condition key is available for actions that create a resource or tag on a resource, and checks the value of the tag.
In general, the allowed characters are letters, numbers, spaces representable in UTF-8, and the following characters: . : / = + - @. Tag keys and values are case sensitive. As a best practice, decide on a strategy for capitalizing tags, and consistently implement that strategy across all resource types.
Principal tags are global condition keys assigned to a user or role. They can be used within a condition to ensure that a new resource is tagged on creation with a value that matches your principal.
Tags enable you to categorize your AWS resources in different ways, for example, by purpose, owner, or environment. This is useful when you have many resources of the same typeyou can quickly identify a specific resource based on the tags that youve assigned to it.
iam:ResourceTag or ec2:ResourceTag are service specific condition keys, in this case iam and ec2 respectively. You can check all supported keys of each service in Actions, resources, and condition keys for AWS services.
RequestTag condition key The aws:RequestTag/tag-key condition key used to compare the key-value pair passed in the user request with the tag pair specified in the IAM policy. The condition key is available for actions that create a resource or tag on a resource, and checks the value of the tag.
Resource or service-specific tags are often used to filter resources during automation activities. Automation tags are used to opt in or opt out of automated tasks or to identify specific versions of resources to archive, update, or delete.
IAM policies define permissions for an action regardless of the method that you use to perform the operation. For example, if a policy allows the GetUser action, then a user with that policy can get user information from the AWS Management Console, the AWS CLI, or the AWS API.
