Perhaps youve already noticed that, by default, all the reports you create using SAS include the title, The SAS System centered at the top of the report. And in certain file formats there is a date-time stamp and page number in the top right hand corner of the report. To specify a footnote you use the footnote statement. Other than the keyword at the beginning, the title and footnote statements share the same general form. Footnotes should not be longer than one paragraph. All footnotes should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in your paper. Footnotes can either be placed on the bottom of the page in which they appear, or they can be placed in consecutive order on a separate page after the reference page.
Rules to Remember in Writing Footnotes: Titles of books, journals or magazines should be underlined or italicized. Titles of articles or chaptersitems which are only a part of a book--are put in quotation marks.
In particular, do not try to add footnotes, or references to the title. Any of it would result in turning a clever choice of title into something very confusing, which may further lead to unintentional mistakes when others try to reference your paper.
Answer. You can mention the title of a book without needing to cite it on the References page.
When citing a print book in Chicago Style, remember to italicize the title and capitalize words other than articles (such as a, the, of, etc.) unless the first word of the title or first word after the colon, as in the example above.
Footnote numbers are placed in superscript, usually at the end of the sentence. If you are referring to a word, place the footnote number directly after the word. If you cite one source multiple times, use ibid or supra after the first citation rather than repeating the full citation.
When using either type of footnote, insert a number formatted in superscript following almost any punctuation mark. Footnote numbers should not follow dashes ( ), and if they appear in a sentence in parentheses, the footnote number should be inserted within the parentheses.
Footnote Basic format: x. Authors First name Last name, Article Title, Journal Title Volume, Issue No. (Year): page number.
If you include a quotation in the title of your paper, you should discuss the quotation in the body of your essay. Do not place a parenthetical citation or an endnote with source information after the title. Instead, cite the quotation where it occurs in your essay.
In keeping with the Chicago Manual of Style, italicize and capitalize titles of full-length, freestanding works: books, periodicals (magazines, journals, etc.)
