Hi, my name is Nicki Lerczak. Im the Instructional Services Librarian at Genesee Community College and this is Chicago citation style this tutorial is going to cover basic book and journal article footnote and bibliography entries and were going to start with the basic book footnote example you will notice that only the first line is indented and the whole footnote is single-spaced youll see thats single-spacing tends to be the theme between footnotes and bibliography entries in Chicago, they dont double space those youll notice our footnote starts with a number one this is pretending to be the first footnote of our paper and we start with an author authors always come first no matter what they tend to be normal when youre doing footnotes so, first name then their last name as you would write a persons name regularly after your author comes the title of your book and similar to MLA you will notice that the important words, or the major words, have been capitalized and in Chica

Can you use footnotes in MLA? Yes, you can use footnotes in MLA style, but they are not common. They can be used to provide additional content or if the bibliographic citation is complicated.
The footnote contains the number of the citation followed by a period and then the citation itself. The citation always includes the authors name and the title of the text, and it always ends with a period. Full notes also include all the relevant publication information in parentheses (which varies by source type).
Footnote Basic format: x. Authors First name Last name, Article Title, Journal Title Volume, Issue No. (Year): page number.
In both MLA and APA, a footnote example includes the citation found at the bottom, or foot, of the page corresponding to the superscript number found in the body of the work. The footnote might consist of the type of work and authors name along with other information related to the type of citation.
Ensure Word is using the Chicago Footnote style (or other appropriate footnote style) In Word, change to the EndNote tab and, from the Style drop-down, select Chicago 16th Footnote as the style. Insert a footnote using Word. Insert the citation into the footnote. Adding page numbers to your citation.
Surname, First name. Title of journal article: Subtitle. Title of journal Volume number, Issue number (Year): page range of entire article. URL/database.
A footnote is a reference placed at the bottom of a page or footer. They are referenced in the text in the same way as a citation i.e. the referenced text is followed by a superscript numeral (1), which corresponds to the numbered footnote at the bottom of the page.
Format for footnotes for a document from the web: A. Author, Title of Document, Name of Website in Italics, Place of Publication, Name of Publisher, year, page number, , (accessed day month year).
How do I Create a Footnote or Endnote? Using footnotes or endnotes involves placing a superscript number at the end of a sentence with information (paraphrase, quotation or data) that you wish to cite. The superscript numbers should generally be placed at the end of the sentence to which they refer.
Each footnote should appear at the bottom of the page that includes its numbered in-text reference. For note numbers in the text, use superscript. Indent the first line of each note half an inch like a paragraph in the main text. Use a short line (or rule) to separate footnotes from the main text.
