Paul Cross: Hi, Im Paul Cross, I want to talk to you today, a little bit about how to create a short radio feature. This can be used for a three-minute feature, a five-minute feature. You can even expand this idea to a documentary, the kind of programming I often create. I want to talk to you about how to design and structure a short radio feature. Lets suppose you are given the opportunity to create a five-minute feature, story, interview, program, music show, whatever, to run on radio. Lets consider this clock to represent your five minutes. Heres your start. How are you going to structure the show? How should you put it together? What do you want your listener to hear? Lets not even think necessarily the kind of content youre going to do, lets think about: how should I put the show together, so that its going to flow. Well, I think you need, here, some kind of beginning of the show: lets call this a show open. I think you need an opening to the show. If you think of most

A radio telescope can be divided into 4 functional parts. The four parts are: the reflector dish, the antenna, the amplifier and the receiver/recorder. The large dish that most people associate with a radio telescope is used to focus the radio waves.
radio telescope, astronomical instrument consisting of a radio receiver and an antenna system that is used to detect radio-frequency radiation between wavelengths of about 10 metres (30 megahertz [MHz]) and 1 mm (300 gigahertz [GHz]) emitted by extraterrestrial sources, such as stars, galaxies, and quasars.
The worlds most powerful radio telescope, in its combination of sensitivity, resolution, and versatility, is the Very Large Array (VLA) located on the plains of San Agustin near Socorro, in central New Mexico, U.S. The VLA consists of 27 parabolic antennas, each measuring 25 metres (82 feet) in diameter.
Radio telescopes have much worse angular resolution (cannot see as much detail) than optical telescopes. For example the best optical telescopes have 0.5 arc seconds resolution from the ground and have 10meter mirrors. A radio telescope with 30 meter collecting plate has 0.5 degree resolution.
The angular resolution of a radio telescope is to be 0.1∘, when the incident waves have a wavelength of 3.00 mm. The minimum diameter (in m) required for the telescopes receiving disc (in m) is 1.05n.
To begin with, imaging of any kind done with radio telescopes (or radio antennae on spacecraft) is an active technique: the imaging requires that the antenna first broadcast a signal at the object of interest. The signal reflects from the object, and the antenna waits for the return signal.
Radio telescopes have poor resolving power because radio waves have a long wavelength. The wavelength of radiowaves is often thousands of times longer than that of visible light and this has negative consequences on resolving power.
Even though Arecibo is a huge antenna, 305 meters in diameter, its angular resolution at L-band is about 3.5 arcminutes.
