A header is text that is placed at the top of a page, while a footer is placed at the bottom, or foot, of a page. Typically these areas are used for inserting document information, such as the name of the document, the chapter heading, page numbers, creation date and the like.
There are six different levels of headings: H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6. A heading 1, or H1, is the largest and most important heading. An H6 is the smallest and least important heading.
HTML didnt define any arbitrarily-nestable sectioning elements or a sectioning hierarchy prior to HTML5, so I suspect headings filled this role instead with their primitive numbering system, and they figured six levels of headings were enough for most documents.
Headings should be as long as it takes to clearly communicate the content of the sections they head. However, each heading should be as concise as possible a good rule of thumb is to limit the heading length to one line.
A: A heading is a short phrase that indicates what the next section of your essay, report or thesis is all about. Headings are used to organise the presentation of your argument and lead the reader through the paper. The reader should be able to preview what your paper coversyour argumentby reading just the headings.
Word: Headings and Styles Heading 1 page title or main content. There is usually only 1. Heading 2 a major section heading. Heading 3 a subsection heading of a major section. Heading 4 a subsection of the Heading 3 subsection and so on through Heading 6.
HTML defines six levels of headings. A heading element implies all the font changes, paragraph breaks before and after, and any white space necessary to render the heading. The heading elements are H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, and H6 with H1 being the highest (or most important) level and H6 the least.
What Is a Header Tag? (H1) For its part, the header tag (H1) is the main title of a page, although there can be (H2) and (H3) subtitles. For example, in an article, the header tag is the title of your text. In general, it is the main title that summarizes everything that is on a page.
titles. Although heading and titles are similar, they are distinct: A title leads the entire document and captures its content in one or two phrases; a heading leads only a chapter or section and captures only the content of that chapter or section. Read more in our article on writing good titles in academic writing.
Headings come in six levels: H1 through H6, of which headings H1, H2 and H3 are most frequently used.
