It can also be done from the Format Cells dialog in the same way as in Excel for Windows: Select the cell(s) or part of a cell value you wish to cross out. Right-click the selection and chose Format Cells from the popup menu. In the Format Cells dialog box, switch to the Font tab and select the Strikethrough checkbox:
If you click on a checkbox it will check the box and cross off the text for that item with strikethrough formatting. If you click the box again, it will remove the check and remove the strikethrough formatting.
To use conditional formatting on checkboxes, select the cells with the checkboxes and go to Format Conditional formatting. Set up the conditions in the sidebar, under Criteria Format cells if, then choose the format you want to apply under those conditions.
One solution I came up with to solve this issue is by inserting a table of two columns. The left column is only for checkboxes and the right column for the listed items. This way you can check the boxes to the left without striking through the text to the right.
On the Home tab of the ribbon, select Conditional Formatting New Rule Select Use a formula to determine which cells to format. On the Font tab, tick the Strikethrough check box. Click OK, then click OK again.
Select cell B1, go to Home Tab Styles Conditional Formatting New Rule. Select the Use a formula to determine which cell to format option. Enter =IF(A1=TRUE,TRUE,FALSE)in the formula input bar. Now, click on the format option and tick mark the strikethrough.
Add Strikethrough Format with Conditional Formatting Navigate to Format Conditional formatting. Change Format cell if to Custom formula is. Enter the conditional rule in the space below. In the example above, we used =$A2=TRUE, which means it will apply the formatting if the checkboxes in column A are checked.
Add the checkbox to the cell you want. Then, select the cell with the checkbox and drag the cursor down to the end of the table. This will add a checkbox to all the cells in the table. Now, right-click on the first cell with the checkbox and choose Format Control from the context menu.
