Apples macOS will automatically save files saved to your Desktop and Documents folders to iCloud, making these files available across all your devices. Thats useful but will eat into your online drive capacity, particularly as (at 5GB) Apple still doesnt provide sufficient free drive space.
Go to Settings, then tap your name. Tap iCloud, then tap Manage Account Storage or Manage Storage. Or scroll down and tap Upgrade to iCloud+. If you already subscribe to iCloud+, tap Buy More Storage or Change Storage Plan.
You can use iCloud storage to keep photos, videos, device backups, and more, and keep this content up-to-date across your devices.
Yes, there are several cloud storage services that offer 1TB or more of free cloud storage. Some examples include Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, and Mega. These services allow users to store large amounts of data, such as documents, photos, and videos, in the cloud for free.
Why is my storage full when I have iCloud? By default, everything you save in iCloud Drive is mirrored on your Mac. That means that files stored in iCloud Drive are also stored on your Mac. Thats convenient because it makes it much quicker to open files, particularly if you have a slow internet connection.
Change iCloud Settings If you see Desktop and Documents folder in there, then anything you put in those folders is saved to iCloud. To turn this off, go to System Settings Internet Accounts Apps Using iCloud iCloud Drive and uncheck Desktop Documents Folders .
Store your Desktop and Documents folders in iCloud Drive On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Settings, then click [your name] at the top of the sidebar. Click iCloud on the right, click iCloud Drive, then make sure iCloud Drive is turned on. Turn on Desktop Documents Folders. Click Done.
Turn off Desktop and Documents From your Mac, choose Apple menu  System Settings. In macOS Monterey or earlier, choose Apple menu  System Preferences. Click Apple ID, then click iCloud. Under Apps Using iCloud, click iCloud Drive. Turn off Desktop Documents Folders. Click Done.
