Columnar database example In a columnar database, all the values in a column are physically grouped together. For example, all the values in column 1 are grouped together; then all values in column 2 are grouped together; etc.
Some examples of column-store databases include Casandra, CosmoDB, Bigtable, and HBase.
When columns are stored for several days or longer, reversed-phase columns should be stored in an organic solvent, preferably acetonitrile, containing less than 50% water and no buffer. Purospher STAR RP-8 endcapped and Purospher STAR RP-18 endcapped columns are best stored in 100% acetonitrile.
Correct column storage is essential for proper chromatography and prolonged column lifetime. Normal phase columns should be stored in Hexane.
Column-family stores, such as Cassandra [Cassandra], HBase [Hbase], Hypertable [Hypertable], and Amazon SimpleDB [Amazon SimpleDB], allow you to store data with keys mapped to values and the values grouped into multiple column families, each column family being a map of data.
In a relational database table, this data would be grouped together within a table with other non-related data. Two types of column families exist: Standard column family: contains only columns. Super column family: contains a map of super columns.
A column family contains multiple rows. Each row has a unique key called Row Key, which is a unique identifier for that row. Each column in column store databases has a Name, Value, and TimeStamp fields. Each row can contain a different number of columns.
A column family is a group of columns in a table that are stored as a single key-value pair in the underlying key-value store.
Reversed phase columns are best stored in mixtures of organic compounds (acetonitril, methanol) and water, where the water content must not be higher than 50%. When using buffered mobile phases it is necessary to flush the silica-based column with pure solvents to avoid precipitation of buffer salt.
Keep it tightly capped when not in use. For prolonged storage, use a mobile phase that inhibits bacterial and mold growth. Use the column in the direction indicated on the label. An unusually high operating pressure may indicate a plugged inlet frit and may be cleared by reversing flow through the column for 10-20 mL.
