Click References, click Table of Contents, and then click Insert Table of Contents. (Again, youre going to replace the existing table of contents with the one you want.) Click Modify, click one of the heading levels, and then click Modify. Click Format, click Font, and then make the font changes you want.
Format the text in your table of contents Go to References Table of Contents Custom Table of Contents. Select Modify. In the Styles list, click the level that you want to change and then click Modify. In the Modify Style pane make your changes. Select OK to save changes.
In Word, put your cursor where you would like the TOC to appear, go to the References tab in Word, and click on Table of Contents. The table of contents section of the References tab in Word. Select Insert Table of Contents from the drop-down menu.

Make a Certificate Without a Template Open a new Word document. Select the Layout tab. In the Page Setup group, select Orientation, then choose Landscape. Select the Design tab. Choose Page Borders. Table of Contents Format Title the page Table of Contents and center the title at the top of the page. Use an outline format for the different sections of your paper. All main headings should be flush-left. Sub-headings should be indented five spaces. All entries should use title case.
Go to the REFERENCES tab and click Table of Contents. Then, choose which automatic table style you want, and click. And Word instantly creates a table of contents, based on your styled headings.
You can change the TOC styles after generating the TOC, but when you later regenerate, the TOC will again appear messed up. The only solution to this problem is to make sure that none of your headings use explicit formatting; they should rely only on styles.
Click References Table of Contents and then choose an Automatic Table of Contents style from the list. Note: If you use a Manual Table of Contents style, Word wont use your headings to create a table of contents and wont be able to update it automatically.
