Gabled roofs like our mock-up here are made up of common rafters, and in order to lay out those rafters, youll need to know the slope of the roof first. In order to get the slope youll need to measure and understand four things: span, total run, unit run, and unit rise. First is the span. Spelling out and abbreviating academic degrees Bachelor of Arts / B.A. Bachelor of Music / B.M. Bachelor of Science / B.S. Master of Arts / M.A. Master of Education / M.
For degrees that are graduate or doctorate level, an M or PhD is put in front of the degree.
A Postgraduate Diploma is indicated by the post-nominals PgDip. Someone with a BA, MA and postgraduate diploma could write BA PgDip MA or (following the Oxford Calendars style) BA MA PgDip.
Letters after names are officially called post-nominal letters. They can be earned for a number of accomplishments. Letters can be earned for academic education, accreditation, certification, designation and/or recognition.
The degree class is not part of the post-nominal letters in any case. Put it on your CV, on your business card, but not your signature. I would stick to just BSc.
When used after a name, an academic abbreviation is set off by commas (e.g., Mary Doe, Ph. D., spoke.). The word degree should not follow an abbreviation (e.g., She has a B.A. in English literature, not She has a B.A. degree in English literature.).
The degree class is not part of the post-nominal letters in any case. Put it on your CV, on your business card, but not your signature. I would stick to just BSc.
Post-nominal letters should be listed in the following order: Civil honours. Military honours. Appointments (e.g. MP, QC) Higher Education awards (in ascending order, commencing with undergraduate) Membership of academic or professional bodies.
If you have a degree, start by listing the highest degree youve earned immediately after your name, such as a masters degree, bachelors degree or associate degree. If you have multiple degrees, you may choose to list only the highest degree you have earned since this often eclipses previous degrees.
