Oh [Music] hey guys Im Lina and welcome to my channel I can promise todays video is going to be boring technical but insanely important if you want to make your prints better but filter or split great printing is a way to control highlights and shadows separately using two filters instead of one I was advised to try it when I got stuck with this one negative which required five hands on the tail for dodging and burning and even had to have those I would have still gotten terrible results with weird halos so I went online and read and watched some tutorials which basically said is this you do test trips with zero zero and five filters pick the times where at zero zero the highlights start getting texture and at five where the blacks started show do two exposures and those defined times on one sheet of paper voila um what I personally got as a result was a remarkably flat print open shadows textured highlights everything technically correct and so ugly I was desperate and complained t

Adjusting Image Contrast in the Darkroom The greatest degree of contrast control is from the photographic printing paper and filtration used during printing.
Photos are taken using silver halide light sensitive films in cameras. The films are then processed in a darkroom and prints made from the negatives in a darkroom. A machine called an enlarger projects light through the negative onto light sensitive silver halide paper to make the print.

Split-Grade Printing is the name given to a technique of exposing variable contrast black and white paper using two exposures instead of a single one. One exposure is made through a soft filter (usually grade 0) and the other through a hard one (usually grade 5).

My approach. The split grade printing approach which I follow involves making two exposures of the same negative on the same sheet of paper a soft exposure at a low contrast grade (I use Grade 0) and a hard exposure at a high contrast grade (I use Grade 4.5).
