To sort lines of text files, we use the sort command in the Linux system. The sort command is used to prints the lines of its input or concatenation of all files listed in its argument list in sorted order. The operation of sorting is done based on one or more sort keys extracted from each line of input.
Sort a File Numerically To sort a file containing numeric data, use the -n flag with the command. By default, sort will arrange the data in ascending order. If you want to sort in descending order, reverse the arrangement using the -r option along with the -n flag in the command.
The command produces a sorted list of lines that contain the specified text. Then type the text that you want sorted, and press ENTER at the end of each line. When you have finished typing text, press CTRL+Z, and then press ENTER. The sort command displays the text you typed, sorted alphabetically.
Use the sort feature in the NotePad tab to organize the items you have entered in the NotePad. You can sort the entire NotePad, or you can sort only the rows you select. When you sort, you can sort the NotePad by any column. You can sort multiple columns simultaneously.
Although theres no straightforward way to sort a text file, we can achieve the same net result by doing the following: 1) Use the FileSystemObject to read the file into memory; 2) Sort the file alphabetically in memory; 3) Replace the existing contents of the file with the sorted data we have in memory.
Use the sort command to alphabetize lines in the files specified by the File parameters and write the result to standard output. If the File parameter specifies more than one file, the sort command concatenates the files and alphabetizes them as one file.

On the NotePad tab, select the row numbers of the rows you want to sort. Click Sort on the speedbar. The column or columns you selected become the defaulted row or rows in the sort by field(s). To sort the lowest number or the beginning of the alphabet first, select Ascending.
