Pretty basic information. Just last name, first name, two columns of dates and two columns of numbers here. Now if I want to sort by a column its pretty simple to do. All I need to do is click anywhere in the table so the table is the one selected. Then if I move my cursor over the top here you could see for each column I have this little arrow here and if I click on it I get some quick actions. One of those quick actions is to Sort. As a matter of fact theres two of them. Sort Ascending and Sort Descending. The reason this happens is because Excel has decided that the numbers are actually text and so it is sorting the text. So in much the same way that words sort based on there letters, the numbers sort on the digits instead of the value.
Click anywhere in the table, then move the pointer over the letter above the column by which you want to sort. Click the arrow that appears next to the column letter, then choose a sorting option: Sort Ascending: Sort the data in alphabetical order (A to Z) or by increasing numerical values.
If it looks like the data did not sort properly, refer to the following list of possible solutions: Make sure no hidden rows or columns exist. Use a single row for headers. If you need a multiline header, either wrap the text in the cell or use Alt+Enter to force line breaks in the cell.
Select a cell next to the strings you want to sort, and type this formula =RIGHT(A1,LEN(A1)-1), (A1 is the cell you use, -1 indicates to remove the first character from left) press Enter key and drag fill handle over the cells which needed this formula.
