Word provides four types of indents: first line indent, hanging indent, right indent and left indent.
In computer programming, an indentation style is a convention governing the indentation of blocks of code to convey program structure. 4.1 KR style. 4.2 Allman style. 4.3 Whitesmiths style. 4.4 GNU style. 4.5 Horstmann style. 4.6 Pico style. 4.7 Ratliff style. 4.8 Lisp style.
You can also indent paragraphs in Word using the four indentation markers on the horizontal ruler. To do this, display the horizontal ruler in Word, if needed. Then look for the Left Indent, First Line Indent, Hanging Indent, and Right Indent markers. Click the indent marker to set.
APA style identifies two types of indentation: First line and hanging. First line indentation begins to the right of where the next line begins. APA requires most paragraphs to adhere to first line indentation. Hanging indentation places the first line of a paragraph to the left of where the next line starts.
There are three types of Indent Markers you can find on the Horizontal Ruler: the First Line Indent Marker, the Hanging Indent Marker, and the Left Indent Marker.
The most common type of indent is a left indent, where text is indented in half-inch increments from the left margin. You can quickly add or remove this type of indent from the Home tab.
Go to Format Paragraph. Under Special, select Hanging. You can adjust the depth of the indent using the By field. Select OK.
Remove or clear a hanging indent Select the text where you want to remove a hanging indent. Go to Home Paragraph dialog launcher. Indents and Spacing. Under Special, select None. Select OK.
Select the text you want to adjust. Go to Home and select Line and Paragraph Spacing Line Spacing Options at the bottom of the menu. The Paragraph dialog box opens. On the Indents and Spacing tab, select the options you want, and click OK.
In a composition, an indentation is a blank space between a margin and the beginning of a line of text. The beginning of this paragraph is indented. Standard paragraph indentation is about five spaces or one-quarter to one-half of an inch, depending on which style guide you follow.
