Tiff files are designed for high-quality publications, and therefore normally are saved at higher resolutions, usually 150-300 ppi.Common resolutions are: 72 ppi (pixels per inch); 200 ppi; 300 ppi.
Both LZW and ZIP will give good results. Use either with confidence. For 16-bit TIFF files, use ZIP.
A TIFF scan will look more grainy because it does have a lot of digital data. JPEGs look more smooth, but less sharp. But, the grain is important because it does add more pixel depth (sharpness). Thats why JPEGs look smoother.
Disadvantages of TIFF files. Detail and resolution lead to TIFFs being quite large files. Their size makes them difficult to share or send to contacts or clients. Their high quality makes them a poor choice for website design, since detailed images can slow a websites loading speed.

TIFF files are tremendously large in file size and dont offer any advantages over saving your files in . PSD format (yes, even Lightroom lets you save your images in . PSD format because its a kick-butt format that keeps your original data intact but still gives you a smaller file size).
Both PNG and TIFF files benefit from lossless compression, meaning that no matter how often you save, open, or resize them, theyll maintain their quality.
