Step 1: Provide the data in the table. Step 2: Highlight the entire data and apply conditional formatting. Step 3: While formatting, apply the formula =ISODD(CEILING(ROW()-5,3)/3) Step 4: Press Apply and the Ok to apply the conditional formatting.
Your table appears by default with alternating shaded rows. This is because the Banded Rows option is selected by default in the Table Design options. If you need to shade every other column, uncheck Banded Rows and check Banded Column in the Table Design Options.
Select the first cell in the range that you want to fill. Type the starting value for the series. Type a value in the next cell to establish a pattern. Tip: For example, if you want the series 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, type 1 and 2 in the first two cells.
On the Home tab, in the Font group, click the Format Cells dialog box launcher. Keyboard shortcut You can also press CTRL+SHIFT+F. In the Format Cells dialog box, on the Fill tab, under Background Color, click the background color that you want to use.
To change cell patterns, follow these steps: Select the cells whose background patterns you want to change. Choose Cells from the Format menu. Excel displays the Format Cells dialog box. Make sure you have the Patterns tab selected. Use the Pattern drop-down list to select any of the available patterns. Click on OK.
Heres how: Select the range of cells that you want to format. Click Home Format as Table. Pick a table style that has alternate row shading. To change the shading from rows to columns, select the table, click Design, and then uncheck the Banded Rows box and check the Banded Columns box.
Click Format. In the Format Cells dialog box, click the Fill tab. Select the background or pattern color that you want to use for the shaded rows, and then click OK. At this point, the color you just selected should appear in the Preview window in the New Formatting Rule dialog box.
Highlight every other row in Excel using banded rows. The fastest and easiest way to apply row shading in Excel is by using predefined table styles. Along with other benefits of tables such as automatic filtering, color banding is applied to rows by default. All you need to do is convert a range of cells to table.
If you combine letters and numbers, like a1 and b1, Excel repeats the letters but extends the numbers in a pattern, such as a1, b1, a2, b2, a3, b3.
Its super easy to add alternating row colors in Google Sheets. Highlight your data table. Go to Format Alternating colors. Select one of the default styles and click Done:
