Shading occurs when ink spreads across paper in different thicknesses. In other words, when there is more ink on one part of the paper than another. Take a look at this example: Fountain Pen Ink Shading notice how the same ink looks dark and light. You can see that some letters are much darker than others.
Some factors that effect sheen are the type of paper, the ink, and the nib size. Less absorbent papers, like Tomoe River Paper, are best to produce sheen from inks. Also, broader nibs that lay more ink onto the page help produce more sheen.

For Windows: Go to Control panel and then Devices and Printers. Find and right-click on your printer and click on Printing Preferences. Go to Quick Setup tab and then select Grayscale. Select Plain Paper as your media type option. Click Apply.
Go to your computer and click Print from the file that you wanted to print. Click on Properties and then the Color tab next. Select the Print in grayscale option by clicking on its checkbox. You can now start printing in black and white.
At the Windows Manage your device screen, click Printer properties. Click Preferences. From the Color Mode dropdown, choose either Color or Black and White. Click OK to save.
When your run out of black ink you may still be able to print using color ink. InkJet printers will sometimes allow you to make a print in blue, magenta, or whatever colors are available.
