Stain prevention If a stain has "set", it has become chemically bonded to the material that it has stained and cannot be removed without damaging the material itself. It is therefore important to avoid setting stains that one wants to remove.
Hydrogen peroxide works differently than vinegar and is better at removing different types of stains. Hydrogen peroxide doesn't actually remove stains—it just makes them invisible! It breaks up strong chemical bonds in stains including ink, and in doing so it makes the stains colorless—but they're still there!
Hot water will set some stains, particularly protein based stains. Use cold or warm water on these before washing in hot water. Always test to be sure that a stain removal product will not damage fabric by applying to a small part of the fabric that is not easily seen.

It's essential to know whether to use hot or cold water on your stain, especially since hot water sets some stains while removing others. Keep in mind that you can remove most stains by rinsing or soaking the item in cold water and then washing it with warm or hot water.
Using higher temperatures for whites can effectively help remove stains and bacteria. However, the most effective temperature depends on the fabric as well. Some fibers will shrink and become weaker in hot water, so the best course of action is to use lukewarm water, ranging between 90 to 110 degrees.
Dry items in the dryer before checking that stains are gone. Heat can set stains permanently. Once you toss the item into the dryer, the stain is set for good. If the stain remains after the first wash, pre-treat and wash again before drying to try and remove the stain.
Rub the stain with a bar of soap, brush the product in gently, and rinse in cold water. This is a particularly good first option when you want to remove set in stains from delicate materials. Another simple way of getting rid of a set in stain is with a paste made from vinegar and baking soda.
Turns out the solution to these stubborn stains has been right in front of my face this entire time: It's Dawn Dish Soap.
