The standard JPEG format loads images one line at a time, from top to bottom, and each line is already pixel perfect. Hence, it can take a while for the picture to load fully. As for progressive JPEG, the image appears all at once as a whole, but itll be blurry and pixelated a first.
Open an image and choose File Save For Web.Optimize as JPEG Choose a quality option (Low, Medium, High, and so on) from the pop‑up menu under the optimization format menu. Click the arrow in the Quality menu and drag the Quality pop‑up slider. Enter a value between 0 and 100 in the Quality box.
A baseline JPEG is a file stored as one top-to-bottom scan of an image, unlike the more complex progressive JPEG. The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPEG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.
You should use a JPEG when You want to print photos and/or artwork. At high resolution files with low compression, JPEGs are perfect for editing and then printing. You need to send a quick preview image to a client. JPEG images can be reduced to very small sizes making them great for emailing.
Less waiting time for users With baseline JPEG, your users see a large white space on the screen or a loading circle spinning until the image has finished loading. With progressive JPEG, visitors can already see the entire image at first sight. Although its blurry, they can still understand whats in the image.
Progressive will appear faster, because it can download a preview of the image in their placeholders as the page is downloading the content from the network. Baseline will appear slower because the users will see the image render from the top first and then making its way to the bottom.
