sometimes you need to work with multiple people on the same excel file maybe just for data entry or youre sharing files production information etc or maybe youre just displaying these information on the live television screen as an information board so when you open an excel file that is already open by another user then you might get this error my file is locked for editing by and then the username open read-only or click notify etc this is not an option I want to work with multiple people on the same document like a database so this is not an option and all the versions of Microsoft Excel there was an option to share a workbook and this is taken out by default and a default ribbons by Microsoft but you can bring it back into the ribbon let me show you how you can do this so start Excel you dont have to open the file etc you just go to file and then here options and then you click customize ribbon and now we have to choose where we want to have or and see this new button so Im go

Set up a shared workbook Click the Review tab. Click Share Workbook in the Changes group. On the Editing tab, click to select the Allow changes by more than one user at the same time. In the Save As dialog box, save the shared workbook on a network location where other users can gain access to it.
Click Review Share Workbook. On the Editing tab, select the Allow changes by more than one user check box. On the Advanced tab, select the options that you want to use for tracking and updating changes, and then click OK.
