When we provide a file name as the argument, xdg-open opens the file with the default PDF document viewer. On the other hand, if we provide a file URL as the argument, the PDF file from that URL is opened using our default web browser. If we prefer to open the file with a specific browser, we can also do that instead.
It involved running find to iterate over all the PDF files, running pdftotext, and then grep on each one of them to find the occurrence of the pattern. While this is a tricky process, it uses commands that are already available on most systems by default.
Use the Find command to search a PDF. Press Ctrl+F if youre using a Windows computer device, or press Command+F if youre using a Mac computer. Then, you can enter the word or text you want to locate in the Find dialog box, which will allow you to select Next or Previous to move through the search results.
Open a PDF file containing a scanned image in Acrobat for Mac or PC. Click on the Edit PDF tool in the right pane. Acrobat automatically applies optical character recognition (OCR) to your document and converts it to a fully editable copy of your PDF. Click the text element you wish to edit and start typing.
Can I Use Ctrl F on Scanned Documents? No. This Windows Find feature only works on documents that have readable text. You can only use this feature by downloading an OCR technology-supporting software, like UPDF, that converts the scan into a searchable PDF.
