To activate it, you can usually press Ctrl + F (or Command + F on a Mac) or look for the search option within the browsers menu. Enter the word or phrase to search: A search box will appear within the browser interface. Type the desired word or phrase you want to search for within the PDF document.
Once you scan a paper document into a PDF file, you may notice that you cant search the text. Your scanner captures the pages as a flat image, which means theres no text your PDF viewer can recognize. This can be a problem, especially with text-heavy documents.
When a PDF is opened in the Acrobat Reader (not in a browser), the search window pane may or may not be displayed. To display the search/find window pane, use Ctrl+F.
One of the main reasons why PDFs are not searchable is that they dont include any text. The PDF may be a scanned document or just an image-based document. If thats the case, then there is no searchable text. You can read the text within the image-based document, but the PDF tool cannot.
Note: Preview can only search a searchable PDF on mac. Go to FileEditFind. Or you can use search toolbar in the window, even press Command+F to search a pdf on mac. Input the key word you want to search in the field and the word will be highlighted in yellow as following.
