You can use Ctrl+F to search your PDF for certain words, regardless of which PDF reader youre using. It will also tell you right in the search bar how many times that word or phrase appears in the document.
Restricting your search to only find PDF files is therefore an easy way of finding authoritative information freely available on the web. You can do this using the shortcut filetype: in the Google search box. It is also one of the options in Google advanced search.
Method 2: File Explorer Open a File Explorer window on your PC. In the search box on the top right of your screen, enter type: . pdf - again, without the quotes, then hit Enter. In the main window, youll see your PDF files displayed. Click on the one youre looking for to open it in your installed PDF app.
Using any browser, open a PDF document (right-click Open with). Press CTRL+F or CMD+F, depending on your operating system. Alternatively, access the Find function in the menu bar. Type and navigate between search results using the arrows next to the search box.
To begin searching for a PDF file, open the Windows Search bar and type in file type:pdf. From here, youll be able to browse through all of the PDF files on your computer and quickly locate the PDF file youre looking for.
Here are a few potential spots where youll likely find your downloaded PDFs: My Files app (sometimes called File Manager) Google Drive or One Drive. docHub Reader. Another mobile PDF reader app.
Problem: Your PDFs Arent Searchable. It may be that you cant search your PDFs because they dont have any text in them. For example, if your PDF is a scanned document, its just a picture of a document. It doesnt have any actual text for Windows to index.
