Search for files Open the Files application from the Activities overview. If you know the files you want are under a particular folder, go to that folder. Type a word or words that you know appear in the file name, and they will be shown in the search bar.
It involved running find to iterate over all the PDF files, running pdftotext, and then grep on each one of them to find the occurrence of the pattern. While this is a tricky process, it uses commands that are already available on most systems by default.
When a PDF is opened in the Acrobat Reader (not in a browser), the search window pane may or may not be displayed. To display the search/find window pane, use Ctrl+F.
How To Search for a Word in a PDF Using Any PDF Reader Open any PDF with your default PDF reader. Press CTRL+F (Windows) or CMD+F (Mac). In the text box, enter your search term. The first match will be highlighted. Press Enter or click the right arrow to navigate between the results.
The easiest way (if you are using Ubuntu Desktop): Go to your home folder in Nautilus, press Ctrl + F and search for . pdf . You can also change the location and you can make your search more specific.
However, we must note that PDF is a binary format, and plain text search commands such as grep and sed will not work as expected on PDF files.
You can use the following commands to open PDF file in Linux: evince command - GNOME document viewer. It. xdg-open command - xdg-open opens a file or URL in the users preferred application.
