Sketch is where. great design happens. A Mac app for designers to create, team up, prototype, and more. A web app for everyone else to browse, give feedback, inspect, and handoff in any browser.
For now, we have no plans to launch the full Sketch platform for Windows, Linux, or other Apple operating systems like iPadOS.
With Sketch, you need a Mac not only to design with but also to open and inspect files. If you are on Windows, Linux or Chrome OS youre out of luck. Figma is platform-independent, making it a great Sketch alternative.
To design and create files in Sketch, an Apple computer running macOS is required (see the Releases page for current versions supported). This is because the Mac app uses frameworks and technologies that are exclusive to macOS.
Do I need a Mac to use Sketch? If you want to create and edit Sketch documents, youll need a Mac running macOS Big Sur (11.0.0) or newer. However, if you want to view prototypes or documents, or inspect designs for developer handoff, you can do this on any operating system and in any web browser.
Unlike Sketch, which is local design software you have to download, Figma is an online tool that works through a browser. Its also far more versatile when it comes to your operating system; it can be used on Windows or Mac systems, whereas Sketch is only available on Mac.
