A distinctive sign (* symbol, mandatory mention, etc.) must be provided in the label of each mandatory field. If a symbol is used to declare mandatory fields, a statement placed at the beginning of the form must indicate that the symbol stands for a mandatory field.
The simplest way to make a form field required in HTML is to use the required attribute. This attribute tells the browser that the field must have a value before the form can be submitted. You can add the required attribute to any input, select, or textarea element.
Indicating REQUIRED fields The most unambiguous way to indicate information that users need to provide is to include the text required or mandatory in the form fields visible text label.
Required fields should be indicated with either a symbol or text, not just color. When providing an indicator for a required field, it should be placed right before the form field. This allows a screen reader to read the indicator to a screen reader user right before the user activates the field.
Home Dictionary Compulsory fields. Sections marked with an asterisk on registration forms, indicating that their completion is compulsory for completing the process, because the company needs the information requested to add a new contact to its database. Required fields, mandatory fields.
For example, Fields marked with * are mandatory or Please complete all fields marked with *. Example: In the registration on Renfe.com, the message Mandatory fields is displayed next to the registration as a legend to convey to users what the means.
How to indicate a required field Provide the required text in the label. Provide a graphic * image in the label with appropriate alt text. Providing star (asterisk) symbol. Use of color to identify if a form control is required. Providing HTML5 ARIA required attributes.
Use asterisks to indicate required fields? Another common approach seen in forms is to mark the mandatory fields with an asterisk and not mark the optional fields. While an asterisk to the left of the label makes it easy to see, it assumes a user understands what this means.
