How to type special characters and symbols on a Chromebook Open the app that you want to type special characters in. On your keyboard, press Ctrl + Shift + U at the same time, and let go. When the underlined U appears, type the code for the symbol you want to use. Press the Enter key.
Use the accents menu Hold down the key for the letter you want to add an accent to. When the menu opens, press Tab or the right arrow to enter the menu. Use the arrow keys to highlight the accent you want. Press Enter, Space, or continue to type to insert the highlighted option.
Select Settings . In the Device section, select Keyboard. Under Built-in keyboard, select Remap keyboard keys. For the keys listed under Remap keyboard keys, choose an action you want it to perform.
Many characters are entered using the right Alt key (just to the right of your spacebar) plus the letter you want to accent. These include: , , , , , , , , ,
You need to hold down the Ctrl + Shift then press u. That definitely works and is called Unicode characters - eg Ctrl + Shift + u followed by a code you want: 00AF. You need to hold down the Ctrl + Shift then press u.
Hold down the Alt key on your keyboard, type the matching Alt code for the character you want to insert, then release the Alt key. You must use the number keys from the numpad with the NumLock key on to type the code. The number keys above the letter keys will not work.
If you see that the Chrombook is not typing the expected letters, the keyboard language setting will need to be changed back to US English.
