Both way is OK ! I used to use Rev 1 for the original version of the document. But recently I moved to a new company where (they) we use Rev 00. Firstly I was surprised but later on I had different perspective: the newest edition has no revision at all, so Rev 0 sounds more logical.
A release describes more the process of publishing a software than a concrete material thing. Whereas a version is a concrete and specific software package. Because you wont publish all software versions you build, only the software versions that you publish or deliver are called software releases.
In revision control the emphasis is on managing the change (besides the version) while in version control the emphasis (obviously) is on managing versions which might not include merging, branching and so on.
Key Difference: Revision is when a major release is made to a software. However, version is when small changes are made and issues are fixed in the released software. For the non-techies, the terms revision and version mean something completely different.
Build: A difference in build number represents a recompilation of the same source. Different build numbers might be used when the processor, platform, or compiler changes. Revision: Assemblies with the same name, major, and minor version numbers but different revisions are intended to be fully interchangeable.
A version is an iteration, something that is different than before. When programmers develop software a version is typically a minor software update, something that addresses issues in the the original release but does not contain enough to warrant a major release of the software. A revision is a controlled version.
When you look at a posts edit history you can see each version of the question going back to the original version. Each version has a number next to it, starting with 1 for the original version. On the mobile app, the original version has an additional identifier next to the 1. It says Initial Revision.
