have you backed up your system recently regardless of whether youre using some type of proprietary nonsense OS or a glorious canoe slash Linux system data loss is still possible and the only way to protect against it is to make backups if youre running Linux Mint 19.1 or any version of Linux Mint later than that then you already have an application that can do this called timeshift now one thing that you should know about time shift full disclosure before we really get into the meat of this video time shift isnt really meant to backup your home directory it does have an option to do so but the real point of time shift is to make a snapshot of your filesystem so things like your theme what packages you have installed keyboard shortcuts those things will be backed up fine with time shift but stuff like your documents and music basically anything that you would normally keep in your home folder might not backup correctly now time shift does still give you an option to back them up as w

4. Locate the folder path displayed next to Backups on the right side of the window. OpenOffice saves all document recovery information in this folder.
Select Tools Options, then go to Load/Save Paths option. The path mentioned above also works as the backup folder for your OpenOfiice temp files. You can access this path to recover previous versions of your document if you wish to restore deleted or unsaved files.
Although OpenOffice is free, it provides the same functionality as Microsoft Office and even includes an auto save feature. This feature automatically saves your business documents, spreadsheets and presentation periodically, so you dont lose your work if your computer freezes or crashes.
If you cant find a file on your computer or you accidently modified or deleted a file, you can restore it from a backup (if youre using Windows backup) or you can try to restore it from a previous version. Previous versions are copies of files and folders that Windows automatically saves as part of a restore point.
Open the Start menu, and then click Computer. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the folder you found in the previous step, such as C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user\backup. Double-click the document to open it.
The default path is C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice.org\Version number\user\backup. Step 8: Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the backup directory. Opening any folder opens Windows Explorer. Step 9: Double-click the appropriate file to open it.
You can go to Windows Explorer, right click on your file and select Restore Previous Versions. This will open a pop up window that shows all previous versions and when they were saved. Select a version from before it was overwritten, and windows will revert it to that version.
