How to compress a file on your Mac Navigate to the file in the Finder. Control-click on it and choose Compress. Wait for the file to be compressed. You will see a new version of the file with the extension . zip.
Compress a PDF in Preview on Mac In the Preview app on your Mac, open the PDF that you want to compress. Choose File Export. Click the Quartz Filter pop-up menu, then choose Reduce File Size.
In the Preview app on your Mac, choose Preview Settings. To choose how to display documents, click PDF or Images, then choose an option next to Define 100% scale as. To display a PDF or image at the same dimensions regardless of the screens resolution: Select Size on screen equals size on printout.
Acrobat can size the pages of a PDF to fit the selected paper size. Choose the hamburger menu (Windows) or the File menu (macOS) Print. From the Page Scaling pop-up menu, select one of the following options: Fit Scale small pages up and large pages down to fit the paper. Select Print.
Choose File Reduce File Size (from the File menu at the top of the screen). Select the adjustments you want to make: Scale down large images: Images are scaled to the resolution used in the document while preserving visual quality.
Change the printer to your Print-to-PDF print driver of choice (e.g., docHub PDF, Microsoft Print to PDF). Click on the Properties button for the printer. For docHub PDF, toggle the docHub PDF Page Size option to the desired new page size (e.g., Letter, A4); Click OK to return to the print window.
In the Preview app on your Mac, open the file you want to change. Choose Tools Adjust Size, then select Resample image. Enter a smaller value in the Resolution field. The new size is shown at the bottom.
Reducing file size Use low resolution versions of your images where possible. Compress images within Word or PowerPoint documents. Use Save As Save as PDF (as a last resort)
