The cross-referenced footnotes do not self-adjust every time you add or delete a footnote between the references. In order to update the cross-references, place your cursor in a footnote and select the text of all footnotes by pressing Ctrl A. Once the footnote text is selected, press F9.
Footnotes and endnotes are set smaller than body text. The difference in size is usually about two points, but this can vary depending on the size, style and legibility of the main text. Even though theyre smaller, footnotes and endnotes should still remain at a readable size.
Insert footnotes and endnotes Click where you want to reference to the footnote or endnote. On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote. Enter what you want in the footnote or endnote. Return to your place in the document by double-clicking the number or symbol at the beginning of the note.
Choose Format Styles and Formatting Click the Character Styles tab. Select Footnote Characters in the list, right-click it, and choose Modify. The Character Styles window will open allowing you to change the properties of your footnote numbers. This includes changing the font, font effects, position, and background.
Choose Format Styles and Formatting Click the Character Styles tab. Select Footnote Characters in the list, right-click it, and choose Modify.
Go to the Insert menu and click Footnote to open the Footnote and Endnote box. Select the options you want in the Footnote and Endnote box. You can choose between footnotes and endnotes, numbering format, custom marks and symbols, a starting number, and whether to apply the numbering to the whole document.
By default your Footnote text is the same Style as your Normal style but with a smaller font size, usually 10pt. You can change the Footnote text to a different Font and/or size using its own Style (called Footnote Text), so its just a matter of locating and modifying the style.
Each footnote should appear at the bottom of the page that includes its numbered in-text reference. For note numbers in the text, use superscript. Indent the first line of each note half an inch like a paragraph in the main text. Use a short line (or rule) to separate footnotes from the main text.
Select all footnotes in a document with Ctrl + A You can use the hotkey Ctrl + A to select all footnotes at once in a Word document. Please do as follows. Click to put your cursor at any footnote of your document, press the Alt + A keys simultaneously, then all footnotes in current document are selected immediately.
You may use the default text size for your notes. The preferred method is to use the same font and font size as your text (12 pt font Times New Roman) Footnotes should be placed at the end of all punctuation except the dash.
