lets look at a workflow example where we need to use the string replace function in the body of an email message I have the send email workflow step already on my canvas here and this workflow so what I need to do is pull in a field from a SharePoint list that contains a text template for the body of my message I can get that from the item reference for this list in the context browser the theme of that text is basically a simple thank-you note however because its a template we cant hard code a recipients name on the salutation line if we have to send messages out in bulk to make this more automated I have added a text with the word name in square brackets in the salutation by doing this we can have K to use the string replace function to replace that string with a value from any data source available within the context browser this includes values from other functions item references smart objects workflow variables or workflow context fields lets just use the workflow originator
