I all right sometimes when youre working in Excel you need to replace certain words throughout the spreadsheet with other words this could be for various reasons whether you just think theres a better word to express what youre trying to say or if youre using a function of looking for a certain word and its not the word thats used throughout the spreadsheet or for uniformity or for whatever the reason alright so for instance here were going to be looking at this column column F where we have sex as male and female and were going to be replacing it with men and women alright so we dont need to have a the cell or the column highlighted somewhere in this document were going to be replacing every word that says men oh sorry everywhere that says male with men and every word that says female with women so well go up to find and select go down to replace and were just going to type into the find what row here whatever we want to find and replace so Im going to replace the word f

To do this, select the column of data that has the extra quote marks, then go to the Data tab and click Text to Columns. In the Text to Columns wizard, select Delimited and click Next. Then, uncheck the Tab option and check the Other option.
Words can be added or changed to a quote by using brackets. Changes can be used to correct tense or to add necessary information. Brackets can also be used to make the pronouns in a quote consistent. However, brackets should not be used to change the meaning of the quote.
To disable smart quotes, On the File tab, click Options. Click Proofing, and then click AutoCorrect Options. In the AutoCorrect dialog box, do the following: Click the AutoFormat As You Type tab, and under Replace as you type, select or clear the Straight quotes with smart quotes check box. Click OK.
Leading apostrophes force excel to treat the cells contents as a text value. Even if the cell contains a number or date, Excel will treat it as text. The apostrophe can only be seen in the Formula bar when selecting the cell, and otherwise stays invisible.
Replace text or numbers with the Find Replace Press Ctrl+H or go to Home Find Select Replace. In Find what, type the text or numbers you want to find. You can further define your search: In the Replace with box, enter the text or numbers you want to use to replace the search text. Select Replace or Replace All.
The single quote prefix means Excel is treating the cell as text. Most likely, the cell is formatted as Text rather than General. Select the cell, bring up the formatting on the cell, go to the Number tab, and under the Category list, select General . You can press CTRL + 1 to get to the Format Cells dialog.
Use Curly Quotes, Not Straight Quotes To get to the Find-and-Replace dialogue box, type CTRL+H. Place your cursor in the Find What field. Enter a double quotation mark. Place your cursor in the Replace With field.
Keep the Leading Zero as You Type: If youre wanting to keep the leading zero on a single number value, insert a single apostrophe character () before you type the number. That will tell Excel to treat the number as text and not monkey with it.
If you have an apostrophe in front of a value in a cell, you can remove them using the following steps. Select data with all the cells. Click Ctrl + H, or navigat to Home Editing Find Select Replace. In Find what insert an apostrophe, and in Replace with dont insert anything.
Smart quotes in Word On the File tab, click Options. Click Proofing, and then click AutoCorrect Options. In the AutoCorrect dialog box, do the following: Click the AutoFormat As You Type tab, and under Replace as you type, select or clear the Straight quotes with smart quotes check box. Click OK.
