So here is my process: Backup the old (CA, registry, etc.) Clone the old CA (why not build a new one? Its quite complicated issue so lets stick with the clone) Uninstall the CA on the newly cloned machine. Rename the newly cloned machine. Reinstall the CA role. Restore the CA config from backup.

Select the certificate template you want to modify. On the Action menu, click Change Names. Type a new name in the Template name box or the Template display name box, or both. Click OK to save changes.
