The reason for this can be that the document was produced incorrectly. Another common reason is that the character mapping information was deliberately obfuscated as a protection mechanism to prevent the reader to copy paste the text data.
Go to the View Menu, select Show Annotations Toolbar. This toolbar will display at the bottom of your document. You must select the tool of choice before selecting the text to annotate. These annotation tools are toggled on and off.
Open the Preview app and launch your PDF file on it. Press Command + I to open the inspector menu. Click on the right-most Annotation tab to show all the markups on that window. Now, hold the Command key and select all the highlights in Preview, then hit the Delete button.
If you want to locate and remove specific words, characters, or phrases, use the Find text or tools instead. Open the PDF in Acrobat, and then do one of the following: In the Edit menu, choose Redact a PDF. Choose All tools Redact a PDF.
View all the notes in a PDF: Choose View Highlights and Notes (so the Highlights and Notes menu item has a checkmark next to it). All the notes in the document are displayed in the sidebar. Remove a note: Select the note in the sidebar, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
How to Remove Annotations from a PDF on Mac Open the PDF document in Highlights. From the menu bar choose File Open. Select the annotation you want to remove. This will bring up the annotation popover: Click the trash button in the popover.
