so my 14 year old son has started to learn a little bit about coding and programming and cyber security and so now he thinks its funny to leave hidden messages all over the place i just saw on his discord status today that this was showing as his discord status so knowing what i know i see that equal sign at the end and that tells me this is base 64. so what im going to do is were actually going to figure out what was his little secret message that he decided to leave for me and all of his friends so im just going to go here to cyber chef go ahead and put that input in which is what he has and right now i have no filters applied so i see that its outputting the exact same thing well what i want to do is i want to take it from base 64 because i know its base64 but when i do that all im getting is binary so what i want to do now is take that binary and convert it from binary into ascii and what im going to see nerd apparently his message is nerd all right thats a funny message

The equals sign = represents a padding, usually seen at the end of a Base64 encoded sequence. The size in bytes is divisible by three (bits divisible by 24): All bits are encoded normally.
First decode base64 String to byte array, then use ZipInputStream to revert the byte array to a string. Deflate the given bytes using zlib. Deflate the given string via a Deflater . Inflate the given byte array by INFLATEDARRAYLENGTH .
A Base64 string will end with == if and only if the number of bytes it encodes, mod 3, equals 1. Do you see the pattern? It happens that 16-byte (128-bit) encryption keys are very commonly encoded in Base64, and since 16 mod 3 = 1, their encoding will end with == .
To identify whether you have a Base64 encoded text, you can usually tell if the text ends in an equal sign and has many uppercase and lowercase characters.
Some of the Base64 encoders append EOL characters like CRLF (\r\n) to the encoded strings. You can use Base64. encodeBase64URLSafe to get rid of them: Encodes binary data using a URL-safe variation of the base64 algorithm but does not chunk the output.
There is no encoding that reduces size. Encodings are just mappings of bits to the character they represent. That said, ASCII is a 7 bit character set (encoding) that is often stored in 8 bits of space. If you limit the ranges that you accept, you can also weed out the control characters.
Encode compress to Base64 format Simply enter your data then push the encode button. To encode binaries (like images, documents, etc.) use the file upload form a little further down on this page. Destination character set.
3 Answers use a higher base (although youll need to write the encode/decode manually, and youll still only be able to get to about base-90 or something, so you wont drastically reduce the size) use a pure binary post body rather than base-anything (this is effectively base-256) have less data. use multiple requests.
Base64 is considered a radix-64 representation. It uses only 6 bits( 2⁶ = 64 characters) to ensure that humans can read the printable data.
The base64 conversion of a given string will always be the same. There is no shorter version of base64. But what you can do is retrieve only the first characters of the base64 result; with cut for instance. Using cut this way is also safe if the base64 result is shorter than 10 characters.
