Find and delete files on your Mac On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Settings, then click General in the sidebar. Click Storage on the right. Go to a category on the right and click its Info button to open it: To delete a file, select it, then click Delete; click Show in Finder to view the file in the Finder.
Heres how to find large files on Mac using Finder: Open Finder. Enable search with the Command + F shortcut. Click This Mac. In the dropdown, go to Other and pick File Size. Select is greater than and 100 MB, or any other value. Move files to Trash as needed.
Open Finder and access your Downloads folder to delete items to your Trash bin. The Downloads folder is often overlooked and holds a lot of documents and files you mightve forgotten about. Back your old files and documents to an external hard drive and remove them from your Mac.
Choose Apple menu System Settings, then click General in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.) Click Transfer or Reset on the right, then click Erase All Contents and Settings.
What Exactly is Other Storage on my Mac? Other Storage includes various types of files like plugins, caches, documents, and system folders that dont fit into specific categories like applications, photos, or videos. These files dont harm your Mac but can take up space.
Option + Command + Delete. This shortcut deletes the file permanently and immediately, meaning that it is not sent to Trash but removed from Mac right away. Note that if you use it, this action cannot be undone.
Delete files in your Downloads folder. Open this folder from the Dock, or by choosing Go Downloads from the menu bar in the Finder. If you use the Mail app for your email, choose Mailbox Erase Junk Mail from the menu bar in Mail. Also choose Mailbox Erase Deleted Items.
When youre in the same directory as the file you want to delete, type rm [filename. extension] If you want to delete multiple files at once, list them all, but make sure theres a space between each one. Press Return to execute the command.
