Imagine a situation that you have been provided with a range of entries fed across a single column in Excel. Here, in this example, we are considering it across column A. You need to remove the first few characters from each cell across that column or the last few characters from each cell across that column. This could be done using certain formulae which we have explained in this post on The Windows Club. The link would be shared in the description section. All you need to do is copy paste the formula. The formula to remove the first few characters from the left hand side would have the word right mentioned here. So, its opposite. Replace these words first cell with full text with A3 or whatever it is in your Excel sheet. It will search for the pattern of dot and number at the end of the string in the vector then removal of the pattern can be done by using double quotes without space. After that the vector will be passed as shown in the below examples.
In Ruby, we can permanently delete characters from a string by using the string. delete method. It returns a new string with the specified characters removed.
For trimming a string after a particular character, use the JavaScript “slice()” method. It takes the start and the last index as parameters and outputs a new string by extracting the portion of the string based on specified indexes.
JavaScript String replace() The replace() method takes two parameters, the first of which is the character to be replaced and the second of which is the character to replace it with. This method replaces the first occurrence of the character. To remove the character, we could give the second parameter as empty.
You can either use R base function gsub() or use str_replace() from stringr package to remove characters from a string or text.
