Usually, the first two numbers respresent a major and a minor version, i.e. 1.0 for the first real release, 1.1 for some important bugfixes and minor new features, 2.0 for a big new feature release. The third number can refer to a really minor version, or revision. 1.0.
Software versioning is important because it helps both users and software providers track the different versions that the company releases. Users rely on software developers to keep them up to date, and they expect a methodical way of understanding when and what updates are released.
A major release consists of major new features and/or large architectural changes. Some existing features may be deprecated. A minor release includes some new features and functions. The release may include limited architectural changes that enhance sustainability and performance.
The numbers represent different versions of the same software or application, and the numbers assigned increase to correspond to the latest development and releases. Subsequent releases of the same product can also be assigned numerical identifiers consisting of two or three numbers separated by periods.
The version identifier is usually a word, a number, or both. For example, version 1.0 is commonly used to denote the initial release of a program. There is no industry standard for how a version number should be formatted. For this reason, each computer company has their own unique methods of assigning version numbers.
When a carrier releases a number from their RespOrg (Responsible Organization) over to Twilio, this means that this losing carrier has made the number available for us to port. Releasing a number from a carriers RespOrg does not mean that the number has finished porting.
Heres How Number Porting Works What happens when you port is that the current carrier who is keeping that number active (Verizon) approves your number to be released, or unlocks it so that it can be transferred away, and the new carrier (Talkroute) takes the phone number and activates it again as the new carrier.
How to Port a Number Choose a new provider. Review different providers and pick the best phone service that youd like to port your number to, based on your business needs. Gather required information. Set up your new account. Prepare your device(s). Wait for the port to complete. Cancel your old plan.
Patch. Date-of-release The software version number is the date of the release. For example, 20.06 (June 2020)
Reading version numbers The leftmost number (1) is called the major version. The middle number (2) is called the minor version. The rightmost number (3) is called the revision but it may also be referred to as a point release or subminor version.
