An Edge browser icon with the suitcase overlay means the application is using a work account, while the original icon means the application is using a personal or guest account. Example of the new Edge browser with the briefcase overlay on the icon in the taskbar.
You forgot the picture, but Im guessing youre referring to the briefcase overlay on the taskbar icon. If this is the case, click ⋯ (Settings and more) Settings Appearance Show briefcase icon on work profiles. If its turned on, youll see the brown mark on the work profiles taskbar icon.
An updated Edge icon with a briefcase designates theyre in the work browser window, and passwords, favorites, and data currently associated with their work profile are maintained, Microsoft said.
Now, some have noticed that Edge has a new briefcase icon next to its logo, and are wondering what that icon is for. The new briefcase icon that Microsoft has introduced is meant to signify the companys new Edge for Business browser, which a browser tailored specifically for use by companies.
Another reason why the Microsoft Edge shortcut may keep showing up on your Windows desktop is if you have set it as the default browser. Try changing the default browser on your Windows PC to something other than Microsoft Edge and see if that fixes the issue.
The icon is supposed to be a briefcase, not a brown envelope (perhaps Microsoft need to make it clearer!), and means you are using Edge for Business, which is separate from regular Edge. You can find-out about it here: .
When youre using Edge to handle work matters like accessing work profiles, passwords, and favorites, the browsers icon transforms into a briefcase. This visual cue is a clever way to remind you that youre in work mode, helping you keep your tasks and data organized and secure.
The brown box icons on the bottom left corner of your file icons are associated with Windows 11s integrated OneDrive functionality.
