Brave uses almost 3x less RAM than Chrome. Granted, Brave is using more power, it seems and Im sure thats because its using more CPU than it is using random access memory. The CPU is going to go up, as some websites are not optimized for Brave and thats just one of the problems that you see.
Because of this, Brave uses slightly more memory than Chrome with no sites open (297MB for Chrome vs. 167MB for Brave), but that difference goes away as soon as the user opens the first web page and Shields starts blocking things.
And this blocking comes via Braves built-in Shields protection, meaning theres no need for an extra extensions that could slow things down. The result? Brave is at least 3x faster than any other browser.
There are several causes of high CPU or Memory consumption by the Brave browser like bad cookies or cache, corrupted user profile, conflicting extensions, etc.
When it comes to performance, Brave renders pages slightly faster than Firefox. Using Basemarks Web 3.0 benchmarking tool, which runs twenty tests on a web browser, here are the scores the browsers received: Brave: 647.47. Firefox: 635.54.
This browser even has a feature where it pays you s for watching ads. Brave is definitely worth a try for these and so many other reasons, but how resource-efficient is it really? Brave consumed a lot of RAM, almost as much as Chrome when it was in the earlier release versions.
Braves browser is much heavier than Firefox in terms of actual memory consumption. Brave preloads various features and add-ons that make it use more memory; Firefox, on the other hand, allows you to decide which add-ons and extensions to load.
If we open the task manager and compare the RAM usage for both browsers you can see right away that the memory is not even close. Brave uses almost 3x less RAM than Chrome. Granted, Brave is using more power, it seems and Im sure thats because its using more CPU than it is using random access memory.
Brave is Chrome (well, Chromium) with a whole munch of extra gubbins, most notably a private cryptocurrency-like system called Basic Attention s, bolted on top. Since its Chrome plus adblockers plus cryptocurrency, you can expect it to take more RAM than Chrome alone.
Disable extensions or add-ons that you dont use often. Update Google Chrome to the latest version if available. If Chrome uses a lot of memory, it might be because you have too many open tabs. Clear your browsing data to free up some space on your computer.
