Given an image, and a simple prompt like Whats in this image, passed to chat completions, the gpt-4-vision-preview model can extract a wealth of details about the image in text form. However, the data is not consistently formatted or, in other words, unstructured.
You can use OCR to scan text from image files in multiple ways. The easiest method is to use a PDF editing application. Many modern apps have OCR features and can read through image files in seconds. Another workable option is converting an image to a PDF.
The Vision API can detect and extract text from images. There are two annotation features that support optical character recognition (OCR): TEXTDETECTION detects and extracts text from any image. For example, a photograph might contain a street sign or traffic sign.
You can unblur a picture to read the text on it by using a free AI image text-unblurring tool: YouCam AI Photo Enhancer (Available on iOS/ Android/ Online). Upload your image to the tool and click Enhance, the AI will sharpen unblur the text, enhancing the whole image into high definition and readability.
Use the Windows key + Shift + T keyboard shortcut. Select the text you want to extract from the images to copy the contents to the clipboard automatically. Right-click and select the Paste option on the application you want to paste the extracted text.
Extract text from image with Google Drive. Upload your image or PDF to Google Drive. Right-click your file in Google Drive and select Open with Google Docs. Wait for your file to load and convert. It may take some time, especially if theres a lot of text to convert.
The OCR API provides a simple way of parsing images and multi-page PDF documents (PDF OCR) and getting the extracted text results returned in a JSON format. The OCR API has three tiers/levels. The free OCR API plan has a rate limit of 500 requests within one day per IP address to prevent accidental spamming.
The Image Text Extraction API is a web service designed to extract text from images. It is implemented in Python using the Flask web framework for building the API and PyTesseract, a Python wrapper for Tesseract OCR, to perform Optical Character Recognition on the image.
